Today I pick up my 2000 honda 300ex. Love it, but anyways to my question. The honda salesman kept pushing the fact that I needed honda's 3 year extended warranty for a extra $440 dollars. He said that they been having problems with the 300ex and that 300ex parts are expensive and that 2 or 3 repairs would pay for the warranty itself. I heard honda are realiable machines, so I said no. SHOULD I GO BACK AND BY THE WARRANTY OR IS THIS SALESMAN FULL OF IT?

THANKS CHRIS007

Most of the mods you do will void one part of the warranty or another. He's just doing his job and selling. The 300ex is as reliable as they come. What does the warranty cover and if you are mechanically inclined a Clymer manual is alot better and cheaper

He isn’t a good salesman, why would you want to buy a quad that he says will require a lot of parts in less than three years. I wouldn’t buy the machine from him at all. Tell him your going have to look at a Warrior because of these reliability issues, and then buy your 300ex from another salesman. I think the 300ex has been around long enough to have proven it’s self.

If I think I need the extended warranty because of quality issues I won’t buy the product.

Life is full of risks anyway …

Chris, If someone is pushing you that hard I would go to another dealer. This guy is trying to sell you a load of junk. I bet when you were looking at the bike he was telling you how good it was. Maybe it is time we quit taking the LIES from the dealers until they at least try to be honest...But then again they are sales"people".
Look for a used one..You will save the sales tax anyway.

I just bought a 2000 300EX (love it, by the way), and I did get the extended warrenty.

Worth it or not, I guess it gives me peace of mind. I'm no mechanic, so to me it was worth it to not have to worry about anything for at least 3 years.

Related story: I just bought a 94 twin turbo Supra, and I got a extended warrenty. Lucky for me! I just got a new $6000+ tranny for free under the warrenty!

Buying a warrenty is just a form of gambling, so you just have to ask yourself...do you feel lucky? Well do ya?

An extended warranty is nothing but a form of insurance should a manufacturing defect arise after the original warranty runs out. I bought one for $350 for my 2000 400EX when I bought it a few weeks ago, only for the piece of mind should something happen after the first six months. One advantage though, is that if you sell it in a year or so the added transferrable warranty is a nice bonus and feature for a potential buyer. If you're gonna get one though, be advised that the price of the warranty from Honda is around $250...anything more is just extra cash in the dealers pocket.
