Default 86' 250R shifter oil leak... easy fix???

I just took my 'new' Fourtrax to Glamis and I love it.
It has ***** I never thought it would have.
I think I got one that was made on a saturday or something....

Even with knobbies, I climbed every hill glamis had to offer, even the steep a$$ hill off to the left of the face of olds..
And it is absolutely the perfect jumping quad.

Anyways, it has a leak at the shifter seal. I can stick a screwdriver up to the seal and move it around.. so it
seems like it might be an easy fix. I DONT have to split the cases for this right? Its all original, cases never opened.

If you can see it you can pop a new one right in. I have never seen Honda make you split cases for a shift shaft seal. But then it wouldn't surprise me. They do put you through "seven kinds" on certain V-4 shifter seals. If it was a countershaft sprocket case seal I would worry as sometimes they put a rib on the outside of the seal that makes it darn near impossible to replace without case splitting. Never seen it on a shifter seal tho.

get the new seal first, and see if there's a lip on the back side. There probly shouldn't be... anyways you should be able to run a self-tapping screw into the seal on each side of the shifter shaft. once you get these in, use pliers to pull on them, thus removing the seal. Take care not to put the screws in too far, cuz I think there's a bearing or something behind it, and if you ruin that, then you have to split the cases. On the other hand, since you can move it around, you probly won't even need the pliers to get it out. Just don't try to pry it out. If the cases are aluminum, you could screw up the seal mating surfaces, and have a leaky seal no matter what you do!!!!
