Question about my valve lash, please read
#1
Hi, this is my 1st post. I have a 1993 Honda TRX 200 (type 2). Today i removed the front plastic and gas tank in order to adjust the valve lash (getting noisey, its a '93 and it has only been adjusted once!!). Well I've done this a number of times on Hondas, but this engine seems different. On any engine I've seen there are holes around the valves for easy access and they can be adjusted/set with a feeler gauge. Well I removed the only access pannel to the valves today and there are 2 dials, one for intake and one for exhaust I am assuming, but no where to use the feeler guage. Around the dials there are obvious hash marks for settings, but can anyone tell me how to go about this?? I wish I had my manual but it wont arrive at my Honda dealer untill 2nd week in April!!! Thanks,
Chase

Remove the recoil , and the two plugs, one up by the adjusters and the other on the left engine cover. Line up the T in the window on the engine cover, If the little circle isn't showing in the plug up by the adjusters, turn engine over 360 degrees so it is. You should now be at TDC compression stroke. loosen the adjusters and take the slack out of the rockers by moving until you feel resistance. From that point, put one hash mark of slack in the adjusters and tighten.

And to think Honda came out with that style of adjuster back in 86 and used it only on the 200 engine. I have never seen it do anything but confuse people (new techs and such) the first time they do it. The reason Honda told us techs they did it back then? To make it easier to adjust valve lash. LOL

No, you want one hashmark of slack in the rockers. If you turn the dials past the point where you feel resistance you are actually opening the valve.
