Used 250r or 400ex

I have owned each year of the 250R's including one 310R, one 400EX, and one 440EX. The 250R's were fun, but I spent a ton of time and MONEY in the shop repairing them on a regular basis. I ride motocross, trail, and dunes. The 440EX is a superior machine from my experience. It handles excellent, has substantial power and is reliable even after extensive modifications.

First of all, the TRX 400EX was basically developed when guys would chop up a 250R frame and drop the XR400 engine in it then go out and win the Baja 1000. Honda finally in 98 decided to just go ahead and build that quad, and that is what the 400 EX is. A bullet proof big bore four stroke in a tight 250 frame with some added suspension. I find mine to be a superior machine. I see guys bending tie rods on 30' jumps on their Kawazukicats. My best friendly is constantly breaking his Rappy and can't hang with us on the tight MX/trails. Another guy that rides with us, get's to rebuild his Banshee about twice a year. I have never had a problem. Change the oil, and put gas in it and make sure the tires have air. But the 250R is the machine that started it all. You can get used 400EX pretty cheap and it is hard to hurt one. You would probably get more use out of it.

Sry I was asking atvmadman, because if hes not really good at fixing things and stuff then he would be much better off with the 400ex but if he wants more performance and can fix his bike i would get a 250r.

Alright that's alright. I was reading your bio fastbansheekid and why do you and everyone else have a parking brake block-off plate I like mine because you can just start it up and leave on the parking brake if it's warming up on an incline and if you put it in gear you have to take it out of gear then start it and hold the brake.?

I hear you brother, after owning a 4-stroke thumper, I would never go back to a 2 banger. The power is more smooth and you don't have to take to the whip as much. Also no fricking maintenance or rebuilds. Yes it is true. The 400EX was something that the hardcore dudes that race the Baja hacked up to get something more powerful and durable enough to not just cross the finish line, but cross it first. THey won like 5 or 6 of them and HOnda finally said screw it, let's just build it ourselves. To this day, the 400EX has won more Bajas than any other quad built. Imagine a 1000 mile MX track on a sand dune. That is about the mothership of badA$$. Now guys are slapping XR650 engines in 400EX frames, so what's that tell you?
