That is a good question. The 250r is a harder quad to find in good condition, but they are really a nice trail machine. Stock a 250r is a little quicker than a 400ex, but on the trails it really depends on the riders ability. We have both in our family and two of our boys ride them and they are very close in comparison. There is a ton of parts available for the 250r out there if you get one of them. If you are not a very experienced rider I would recommend the 400ex. The powerband of the 4 stroke motor is more subtle and easier to ride in the tighter trails. Also if you run a stock gas tank on the 250r it will not go as far per tank as the 400ex. These are a few observations we have made with our machines. I hope this helps.

Man i would have to say the 400ex i bought one in november and i love it. Parts are easily accessed and i love the way it handles. I have rode raptors and banshees and just about every other machine and I would not trade my400 for anything else unless i was going to consider going into racing it is a great trail riding and jumping machine.

go with the 250r no....the 400 or on the other hand the 250r its faster and it handles better its also an awsome jumper, better than the 400, its just alittle bit harder to keep in power band in tight turns but for open trails it kix ( Y )

maybe a little bit more difficult, but not a whole lot... it's still a very popular machine, so companies have the demand for parts, so they make them
