Rubicon v.s. Vinson
#11
Got my first chance to see and ride next to a Vinson a couple of weeks back. The first fender deep water crossing left the Vinson sitting on the bank for almost an hour trying to get it started. The Vinson only went through once, before gettign water-logged. My Rubi, and by buddy on his 450, made it through 3 or 4 times with no trouble. Needless to say, I wasn't impressed. I'll keep my Rubi.

We flat enjoy riding our Rubicon. It has delivered nothing but enjoyment for 3000 trouble free miles. My single biggest dilema when riding is to run it in D1 or the ESP mode. The transmission is the greatest attribute of this ATV. It has run perfectly from 4000 to 12000 ft in elevation and everything in-between, every time we turn the key and hit the start button. The only two changes have been the dealer installed a 150 jet as part of their pre-delivery and we installed 25" Goodyear Mud Runers.
Ride both, you may like the speed of the Vinson more.

So are you saying that you picked the honda over the suzuki because suzuki is unreliable?
In my honest opinion, suzuki is just as reliable as honda is.
I take my vinson in waterholes on a regular basis, sometimes up to the instrument panel, and have yet to drown it out. The intake to the tranny is up high and has never taken in water.
The rubicon has full time 4wd which is crap if you want to trail ride a lot.
I also spent about 1k less than most rubby owners too, I picked my 03' vinson up for 5200 otd.
I'm glad I bought what I did, and there isnt a honda owner out there that's going to tell me that a rubi is better than a vinson.

Compare the Vinson features to the Rubi and you can see why many of us believe you get much more for the buck buying a vinson. Don't get me wrong I believe the rubi to be a good atv. As far as reliabilty goes I've owned more suzuki's than I like to admit to. (getting old) and never have I had anything but normal maint. problems. (knock on wood) The bottom line is if you want to pay more for less but have the honda name that's ok too! It would be a boring world if everone liked the same things. I have a friend who won't own anything but a dodge. I've owned two and I could'nt send them down the road soon enough and go back to my chevy. That's what makes the world go around!!!!!!!!

Rubicon guys,
If your tranny were to stop working, would you be able to fix it in your own garage or would you have to take it to your dealer? I can handle replacing a belt every once in a while. I know Hondas are generally reliable but they aren't perfect. My nearest Honda dealer is 45 miles away. Suzuki is only 10 miles away so that made a big difference in my decisions.
Just some food for thought.

I travel 30 miles to work every day and am four hours from the next major city.To me an extra 35 miles is not much of a distance.Besides it is rare that I ever even see a dealer. As far as fixing your own gear do you drive a modern vehicle with a computer or do you drive a model T that is much simpler and easier to fix?I know people that still don't trust electronic ignitions or fuel injection even though they have proven much superior to the parts they replaced.
