Default oil burning 400ex

i have a 99 400ex that burns a lot of oil. it doesn't leak at all. i have to add about half a quart of oil every 15-20 miles. it doesn't apear to smoke that much. want to know if anybody has had this problem with such a great bike. and what would be a fix.
thanks.
patient

My buddies and I bought 4 400ex's. 3 out of the 4 used oil almost since they were new. The other 4 wheeler wasn't ridden very much. They were 99's.

At autozone, its called Lucas Oil Stablizer its in a white bottle with red and blue letters. Its really thick and is supposed to make it run 6 degrees cooler

Don't buy any junk addtives you don't need them first how does it run does it still have good power starts easly. How many times if any have you serviced the air filter and did you put something on it don't use motor oil that gets hot and runs off. Use chain lube or something sticky Honda offers foam filter oil that is the best or you can get some from Bel Ray. Has you air filter ever fallin off, you should also update the clamp holding on your air filter I have rebuilt many of 400's because of the air filter fallind off one from a 2002 or new is what your after and use a high quilty oil and change the oil filter don't put it in backwards either don't for get there are two drain plugs and don't forget the washers and replace them after two oil changes.

Some oil consumption may be normal but half quart\15 miles is too much. It should be smoking pretty good at that rate! Is it possible ur overfilling it a half a quart and it's ending up in your airbox? You know they have a special checking procedure. Then again it probably needs a rebuild. Sorry patient, I don't think any additive can rebuild your engine for you.
