Never heard that on ours. Seeing as its a 03 then I'd take it back to the dealer and have them look at it.

ours ticks when it's cold too. we have two different friends that have 250ex's and theirs does it also. i remember awhile back someone else posting that theirs was too and someone came on and said it was normal. hopefully that helps. but you might as well take it in and let us know what they say.

Some noise maybe normal, some machines may be quieter than others. A valve clearance adjustment may help quiet it a bit.

Hey i have an '03 250ex.i didnt relly notice the knocking but i dont know if you notice but when its cold(or maybe its just mine)it runs crappy and slow but right when it warms up it runs awesome. Also a tip take off your spark arrestor and itll make it sound 10 times better and it feels like it gives you more power.

thanks for the replys, i talked to someone at work and they said its probably where the oil has drained to the bottom of the engine because it was sitting there for few days before i started it, i just have to give it chance to pump the oil round. i was thinking of taking the spark arrester off but im sure someone on here said it can damage your engine, and you lose out on top end but gain it in acceleration. thanks

I agree that the oil was probably just drained and needs to circulate. I always leave my Recon run for a few minutes before I ride. It is also better for your motor if you do. You probably hear the rods going up and down until the oil circulates. You can tell the difference in how it runs if you don't let it warm up. It will lack power.
