Ok I am in need of new tires for my 400ex. I was wondering if there are any major advantages to going with an aftermarket wheel? I think the stock wheels look good and have seemed to be durable. Would there be any reason not to mount new tires on these? I am going with aftermarket tires. Leaning toward holeshot xc at the moment.

Also whats a resonable price to expect to pay to have the stock tires ripped off and new tires put on. That is if I do decide to stick with the stock wheels. Thanks for your input.

Save you money, The stock rims are just as good if not better than ITP's rolled edge rim.

I bought XCT's with those new rims.

If I had it to do over, I would not have bought the rims. Bent one allready.

one of my buddy's has been racing since 87 and he said the factory honda wheels are stronger than champion bead locks. I have ITP .190 all the way around my 250r and my holeshot MX's are on mitchell .190 the only reason I switched is because my wheels were pretty beat up. another advantage is being able to switch to a 8 inch wheel which will help low and a little. I run 9 inch with 20/11/9 6ply razr's on my 250r normally and I love them but I run 18/11/8 holeshot MX'S when I race they help going up hills alot. hope this helps.

You can fit 23x7-10 and 22x11-9 tires on stock rims? I am thinking about XCTs, or 4-ply 23" front and 4-ply 22" rear Razrs. 6-ply might be oeverkill. 4-ply seems like a happy medium. Good durability without lots of weight. I've looked in magazines and XCTs on .190 Douglas are about $385 from Rockey Mountain. That is pretty expensive, so it would be great if I didn't have to buy rims.
