I took a doe on Tuesday afternoon and a smallish 8 point yesterday afternoon, both with my bow. Shotgun season opens next Friday so hopefully the big ones will still be where I'm planning on going.

Hi, I shot a forkhorn thursday and stuck a doe the thursday before. I'm not a trophy hunter, JUst putting meat in the freezer. Maybe some day I'll pass for something bigger. You elk hunters are making me jealous. Good luck hunting.

That's the way I look at it, AnimalAl. Here in Illinois we have some of the best tasting (not to mention trophy) deer you'll find because they feed on corn and soybeans all summer and fall. I'm a really happy hunter when a big buck steps in front of my sights, but the main thing is to get 2 decent-sized deer in the freezer so that we don't have to buy beef the following year. I guess when the kids get older I'll have to increase that to 3 or 4 deer but in the mean time two deer that dress out at approximately 150 lbs or larger are enough. In fact, our kids hardly know what beef tastes like because they're so accustomed to eating "Bambi meat" (their words).

Remember to take your kids hunting!

Great to here they eat the Venison. If people are using the meat the dnr should let them have more tags. Some people like me only need one big deer or two little ones because I'm the only one who will eat it. It's hard to plan a meal just for myself on short notice. I took my boy old out last year when he was 4. He thought it was fun. He was a chatterbox, no deer within a mile for sure. This year he helped me put out portable stands. Good luck hunting everyone, It's almost time to go icefishing now.

I killed a 7 pt, 165 lbs and a med size doe last weekend. We turn it all into deerburger and pull the tenderloin. Got 57 packs of burger out of those 2 and 14 packs of loin.

Unfortunely I didn't bag a deer during rifle or early muzzleloadin' season, but I really enjoyed just being out there! I can't wait till late muzzleloadin' season opens back up there's been an 8 pointer (with a nice spread) and 5 does in the yard lately!!!!! I wish ya'll luck

Congrats to all who scored and best of luck to those still trying.(including me!) . 1 doe for me so far, nothing to brag about in size but I love the meat. Heres a tip for new/young bowhunters...when practicing shooting from your stand dont forget or neglect to get familiar with the ranges BEHIND you. That cost me a nice buck this year. Never thought he would come out in that spot. Yep I missed em. I misjudged the distance and shot over his back. Lesson learned. Oh btw I got to break in my new prairie hauling out my and a friends deer. Again best of luck to all...ride and shoot safe and have a merry christmas. Bob

Got 2 more last Saturday, a doe and a button buck. That brings me up to 4 so far. I'm heading to Iowa for the opener tomorrow so we'll see how things go. There are a ton of deer where I'm headed.
