If the boy was brought up by a responsible hunter, this would have never happenned. It means nothing too take a deer illegally....nothing. You are doing nothing stalking a deer in the dark. A seasoned veteran is what it takes 99.9% of the time too take a monster buck. When you take the hunt out of hunting you have nothing.

Hey Sandgod, I saw your post and Boone & Crockett do not have a listing for Kodiak brown bears, you probaly meant Coastal Brown Bears or Alaska Brown Bear which is primarly what the grizzly is listed up here. I saw on line that they only listed the overall Brownie and I do not have the book to look it up. I see the last printing was in 1999 and the next update is in 2005, so until then he may have indeed the number two slot, I have not heard of many big bears being taken in the last couple of years. I did hear of one about 6 or 7 years ago taken out of Dillingham, which is 375 S.E. airmiles from Anchorage and it was reported to be close to 11 foot but I did not hear what the skull size was, that is how they measure for a record, not length of hide. You can get a realy big bear but for some reason or another it falls short on the measurment on the skull. Just alittle info. AlaskaBoy.

His bear was shot around 1990 give or take a few years. He donated it to the University of Utah.. It was measured by the skull. I'm not a hunter, but I did talk w/ Harvey and got the story on how he shot it. He pulled out the B&C book and told me the measurement was official and would fall in the second place slot...

I got thinking about it I think it was more like 1992-1993 not 1990..

Sandgod, even a second place bear is impressive. Like I said I looked on line and it only list the numbe one slot not the number two or so forth. I would be impressed if I could beat the one on my wall, he is only 7 and half feet, never measured the skull as I know it would not be even close to get in the book. My next one will be by bow, I have taken Black bear with it now I want to step it up a notch. This way I can hunt longer, with a rifle I would of been done years ago. I have a wall picked out in my house for it but it may never happen but that is what dreams are for. AlaskaBoy.
