Default ideas for hauling water

Depending on how big your trailer is, I think a good idea would be to get two or three plastic drums, set them on thier bottoms and connect them together at the bottom with hose, that way you can just fill one, and they will even themselves out. Next, hook a hose to the bottom of one, since they will all flow out one hose the same way you filled them, and put a valve on the exit hose. When you want to water your trees, simply open the valve and let gravity push the water out, instead of dipping it or having to have a pump. Using gravity feed tanks would be simple and very cheap, and by using three or four 50 gallon drums instead of one big tank, it would elliminat a lot of the sloshing of water and would be easier to controll behind your quad. I just thought this would be a good idea. Good luck.

now, if i can just keep the deer away! (i figure i'll loose more than half to hungry animals!)

I have been told that it is best to let the grass grow up around them for protection from both bunnies (deer?) and the weather.

----

When I was a kid, I had "truck crops" that I grew. I used to have a 1000 gal water tank that I put on a HD utility trailer. It would take quite a while to fill that tank, but we didn't have to fill it too many times/day.

I would go find a 250 gallon plastic tank from an ag supplier. If you are in this for the long haul (pun?) I think you will want to start off right. Otherwise you will likely be screwing around for a while with the cheaper setup - only to discover that you shoulda done it right to begin with.

I've been told to pee around them. Human smell or some such reasoning.

Putting plastic tubing of some sort around the base can help too at least with the rabbits. I've used some thin walled black corrugated pipe with a slit cut side down the side so I could get it around the seedling's trunk.

He's gonna need one tough ATV to haul a ton (2000 lbs) of water over a mile of "tough terrain".

Maybe he can find a 150 gal tank? Anyhow, I figured that he would put an axle under it and tow it behind.

Default ideas for hauling water

been watching the replies to the original thread - #@#$! work has interferred with my ability to respond in timely fashion (i'd rather be shoveling crap than working)..

here's what i decided to do:

using my moose utility trailer, i put 2 large trash cans (not sure about the capacity, but these are standard size trash cans) in the trailer and secured with bungies. lined the cans with large plastic bags so i can minimze the splash when the cans are full of water.

once filled at the farmhouse, i put the rubicon in low and towed the water to the grove (walnut, ash, oak, etc.).. then used a standard water can to distribute 2 gallons to each seedling. time consuming yes.. but i got my wife to do most of it !

i found a spring near the grove last weekend, so i'll be setting up a system to pull the water from there..

thanks for all the help!

Well water is weight right? weight burns fuel quickly. Try hauling your empty water jugs to the nearest city that you will be riding in. Fill em' up there and save a few bucks in gas money. Just my opinion.

Well dang, might as well just put down some of those garden hoses with holes in them and walk away! Could anything else go your way on this project?

Now that does sound like a responce from someone that pipes their water in from a neighboring state eh?
