what is your # 1 choice rifle cartridge for deer huniting?
For the last 15 years I have used a 243 to hunt deer. Until last season I shot one and it walked off. So I went and purchased a Remington 710 300 Win Mag. I have not shot it yet, and is a little over kill for whitetail, but it should be interesting.

Personally I shoot a Browning 7 Mag for rifle, Browning BPS 12 for shotgun, Bowtech Miti-mite bow and TC encore 50 for muzzle loader. I just bought a 243 brl for the TC to use in NY. 7 Mag is more of a trip gun for when I go out west and hunt with my buddies in Wy. Just about any cal will do the job if you aim it straight!
Dad always used Rem 30-06 great gun.

I do a little bit of overkill, but my favorite gun for hunting is my sendero .338 Rem ultra-mag!! I have only shot one deer with it the first year I got it just to use it right away. I have it setup with a 4.5x14 Nikon Buckmaster scope. I reload myself with either 280 grain soft pt or 320 nosler ballistics. I haven't shot a deer with it since but I have shot an elk with it. Other than that, I usually do my deer hunting with either my 460 or 500 Smith & Wesson. But sometimes I'll take out my.22-250 just for fun.

Kind of a broad question. Pretty much depends on where and what kind of land I am hunting.
For most of Whitetail hunting in Michigan I carry my 300 Savage model 99e with a weaver 4x scope. I believe the 300savage to be one of the best rounds ever made for deer hunting here. But if we are out west or doing some distance shooting I carry a Savage 300winmag, with hand loaded 180gr psp.
I have also been known to take a doe or 2 with my Savage Tactical 22-250 topped with a Leupold Mark 4 8.5-25x50mm. With handloaded 40gr hornady v-max bullets I carry a muzzle velocity of 4210 fps. Head shots only, we shoot for the ear or eye.
Now my wife has one of the best rounds (IMHO) for smaller framed people or woman. She carries a Winchester model 94 Legacy lever action in 38-55. Which she loads her own with 255gr sp. Not a long distance shooter by any means, but 100 yards or less, one very deadly weapon. The gun itself is a little heavy, but once she got use to it, look out! It feels like less recoil than a 410.
She shot a 400lb Russian a couple years ago with it. I swear the dam thing slid 4 feet sideways when the bullet hit.
