In the south they can use dogs to hunt. It is really pretty fun hunting with dogs. It is something I enjoyed a lot growing up. I am sure there will come a day when that type of hunting will come to an end.

Ginnis,
I used to live about 15 miles north of Waynesburg, nice little town. Here's my Story. My nephew and his friend are big time bowhunters. My nephew's friend shot a deer and couldn't find it. My nephew said he saw the arrow hit the deer high in the back. This took place sometime in late Oct. The buck had a unique rack and was easily recognized by both hunters. About a month later in rifle season my nephew saw this same deer at about 200 yards. When he first saw it he realized it was the same deer his friend hit with an arrow a month earlier. The deer was walking straight away from him. To his amazement he could see the arrow sticking out of the deer's back. At that moment the deer twisted it's head back and pulled out the arrow with it's mouth! The deer never turned sideways to offer a shot. The deer walked into the woods and was never seen again until deer season was over. He saw the deer when he was going to school. He said the deer showed no signs of injury.

I shot a deer with my bow that did the same thing except he pulled out the arrow within 30 yards. I shot him and he just flinched a little, turned around and walked away. I thought it was high when he was walking away but he was moving so slow I thought this is gonna be quick. HA. I waited a half hour a followed the trail, found the arrow right where he pulled it out. There was very little blood to follow but still enough if you thought about where he would go. He never laid down, just kept walking so after a couple hundred yards I figured wait til morning. The next day I found blood here and there and trailed him over a mile til he crossed the river. Since he never laid down and I had read article about the hollow area above the lungs and that most deer will heal up and you never get them I gave up. The neighbor guys saw him about 3 weeks later going like a bat out of hell with the fur a little funny where he was arrowed. A couple weeks after that the same guys got him gun hunting and went over to see him and he was just like scabbed over. Would have been just fine except for the neighbors bullet.

I saw the same thing happen with a gun this past year with a different neighbor, the deer came over a ridge past me looking as if it was gonna fall right over with my only shot being at the back of its 10pt head and decided he could barely walk and that he was going down to the pine patch to die. 20 minutes later he come 3 neighbors, so I get down and fill them in where the deer is. Two of us take up the trail and I send the other 2 around to stand just in case. We followed that deer for six hours and about 5 miles to where he crossed the rode right by their hunting shack. At that point I went back to my stand even though my opening day was pretty much shot. They did end up getting the deer the last day of our 9 day gun season. He was already healing and was showing no effects like he had even been shot.
