Default military rifles for hunting

I have a 303 Enfield, sporterized. 215 grain for wild bore. Back up is a .44 Ruger Redhawk. With the furniture removed, it's a lot lighter and dead accurate. I have heard that more big game has been taken with the 303 than any other firearm... mostly because of all the rifles that were sent to Africa. I do carry a Marlin .44 carbine along with my Ruger on my Bomb 800. I live in Bear Country and it's light and fast.. You are very right about letting go of a HK 91.. I still regret not buying one when I bought my HK93-A3 (adjustable stock) The 93 is the most accurate .223 I have seen, and is a tack driver.

Ooooops.. that was meant to be wild boar... but there have been a few "wild bores" that would have benefited from it from a 215 grain bullet

Is your marlin the lever action saddle rifle? Since I was a kid, my mother's has been missing the brass saddle ring and some screws. I've been trying to locate parts for these.

Sadly no, it's a standard lever action. I have a number of lever action marlins and winchesters and none of them have the saddle ring either.

Sparky et al.,

If there is anyone looking to acquire a Winchester 94 Lever action that is chambered in .450 Marlin then I'm looking to sell. I have 80rds of once fires, installed the correct XS ghost ring sights, and have 20rds NIB ready to go. It is one cool cowboy rifle, is guaranteed to shoot 5 shot groups to 4MOA standing up at 100yards and is guaranteed to go through at least a half dozen Hmong (not sure what those are). I'm upgrading to the Barrett 50--the last word in potency and accuracy. PM me if interested.

Cheers,

Man I'd love to get another gun right now, but I've been spending so much $$$$ lately. I need to get some things paid off.
I'd like to get a Remington 700 p in .308 for hunting.
