RAIN
#1
It's raining! First meaningful rain we had since about mid-july. We had a few sprinkles, but nothing enough to actually make mud until now. Just wish it came 2 months ago. Been raining all morning. I know to some people, rain just gets things wet, but without rain, I just as well sell out & move to town...but where would I put the hogs & cattle...I wonder if they would qualify as pets? Am I the only one that was drying out? Just curious. I might actually have to kick in my 4-wd today to check the cows.

Greetings,
Actually, we had one of the wettest years on record here. After two straight years of high heat and drought, it rained nearly every week all through the summer. I believe the corn crop hit records in both Maryland and Pennsylvania. Of course prices are at an all-time low as a result.
I grow a couple of thousand Christmas trees in PA and this was the best year ever. Out of 500 newly planted trees I don't think I lost any (if you don't count the one I ran over with the mower). And with all the rest of the flora doing so well, the animals left everything in my fields alone.
What was strange about it all though was how low the creeks stayed. They would rise a bit after a rain but they didn't stay up much more than they would in a typical summer (non-drought). Everyone noticed but no one could explain it -- maybe the ground had a backlog of soak-space to make up for.

We're just this week getting our recovering rain and it's about time - some of our water holes for the cows had been down to merely mud. I think it hadn't really rained much for a couple of months. There were quite a few forest fires out here that needed the help of some heavy rains. But that should do for a little while.

I am glad to hear you guy's are recovering. It was so wet this year we couldnt get into the fields until July. Needless to say no corn this year. It seems like we just go from one extreme to the other, last year dry as a bone from June to September and then this year. I may just sell everything and spend my summers playing instead.

Hey
It rained here today also...I was waiting for it to rain for a bit of mud to get on my new trails my buddy an I made with a harrow(works great). The trails were smooth and soft but it rained all day today so when I got home from school I went out riding and the trail was like quick sand...LOL
