Default Good Handgun Carry

Greetings, I want to carry a handgun (45) on my BF750, concealed/unconcealed makes no difference. It'd be nice if it had a little protection from the elements but not a major consideration.

What have you folks used that works well and where did you get it?
Really looking forward to your info.

Apparently ammo boxes do a good job keeping everything dry as long as the seal is still in good shape. I haven't personally tried it but I would like to get one for my quad.

The best thing IMO is to carry it in a shoulder holster, and a hip holster would work too, if you can legally carry it either way. Uncle Mike's make high quality, low priced holsters for anything. If you want to carry it on your atv you can put it in your cargo box or bungee a gun case to the rack. Been there, done that. An option in between is to have it in a holster attached to the ATV. There are ATV accesory holsters made just for that.

I like a shoulder holster. As for holsters I'm a firm believer in SERPA type holsters. They're pretty much the only type I use now. They may cost a little more but they're far, far more secure than regular holsters. Nothing more embarrassing that having your weapon fall on the ground in public. A sheriff's deputy friend of mine leaned over to pick up something at the grocery store and his weapon fell out of his holster. There he was with toilet paper in one hand and his plastic fantastic bouncing down the middle of the crowded aisle.

Of course being a small town EVERYONE heard about it.

A good holster for riding needs a flap or a strap to hold your shootin' iron in. Thumb-break snaps seem to be the most popular. A military type flap holster offers the most protection and security.

Bandoleers are great for hand cannons. I forgot all about them.

OK, I sure do appreciate all the info.
Gotta tell you about some info I found this morn.
By accident I found something at Cabela's web site.
It's called the Mad Dog ATV Handgun Mount and it's pretty near what I was looking for. I don't think the holster is included but the one in their pic looks ideal if I could find one like that suitable for my 45.
Are you folks familiar with that particular mount??
Thanks Agn,
scupper

Hi Scupper,

You might want to look at the Fobus brand holsters. Full rotating adjustable, pad, belt loop, 100% held in position (you can't loose your weapon).

There made for LE for not being able for someone to take your weapon away from you. Hence the drawback that takes getting used too. To remove from the holster, the weapon has to be drawn from the same angle (position) each and every time.

Once you get used to the holster, you'll fall in love with it and you'll never loose your weapon while riding. A very comfort holster to ware.

If you are carrying a handgun on the machine, why not take a rifle or shotgun? There are stock rifle cases and a rifle/shotgun is going to be way more effective on anything you need to shoot then a handgun.

Not trying to start a war but this would be the way I would go if not concealed on my person.
