Off Topic-GOOD hunting boots???
#11
Hey, Cowboy, try checking out www.sportsmansguide.com as they often have good prices on footwear, and I believe handle the Rocky brand. From time to time, they will have boots at discount, usually last year's leftovers, but heck, they are usually 1/3 off are brand new, and are guaranteed like any other.

I got my DeerStalkers at the BootBox in Grove City,PA - I guess that would be a bit far for you to travel though huh? Also, that was about a year ago, so prices must have changed quite a bit since then. Good luck this hunting season - bag a big one for us.

heh heh heh, yeah, I think Grove City would probably take a bit to drive over for the day-and a few more on top of that as well! I found an older Cabela's catalog with the deer stalkers in them, these new ones are the upgrade deer stalker II's-that's why there's a price increase-they changed a few things. Anyway, I still think I'll go with them-they've caught my eye for quite some time now, after all the backup here supporting Rocky, I think they'll suit me just fine.
As for bagging the big one-bear hunting trip Sept. 4th, high hunt muley Sept. 15th, general deer Oct. 17th, elk season Oct. 27th-Nov.4th late whitetail Nov.10-18th. Gee, that doesn't appear as if I'm getting excited or anything does it. Boy, I sure hope not, hate to give the wrong impression there-I CAN'T HARDLY WAIT!!!! Hunting seasons coming, oh hunting season's a coming, high ho, high ho, hunting seasons almost here, yippy!!! -sorry, couldn't resist...guess I got a little carried away...
One slight problem though-heard a nasty rumor that Mt. Rainier has had a sudden glacier melt with flooding river, they're thinking possible eruption within the week. Not sure if it's true or not, didn't find any serious geothermal warnings on the home page, but there was mention of several geological survey crews coming in to investigate. I really hope this doesn't happen-it would be very devastating to Washington State, not to mention my elk hunting which is just about 40 miles from there. Mt. Rainier is a very beautiful place, and a huge tourist attraction. Close to Seattle for one, and several other smaller communities on the east side. St. Helens blew that was a huge ordeal, we had ash clear up in my home town some 5 hours north. Rainier is only 2.5 hours from my home now-would be a huge disaster. Just hope it was a mistake of some kind, doesn't work out the way they think it will...
Deer hunting should be good though, and I got a line of some good bear sightings, so hopefully that will pan out-need to get my boots first though, running out of time!
Best of Luck, Thanks again to everybody for all the info-hey Farmr-that was a pretty good site there, thanks!

Just ordered my new boots. While there, I noticed Cabela's is having a sale on the "bargain cave" for the Bruin series hunting boot. It is only available in Advantage camo, looks like it's 10" high. Is 100% waterproof, has 800 gram thinsulate, virtually indestructible helcor toe cap, 1000 denier cordura shafts and camo printed leather uppers, said to "wear like iron against rocks". Goodyear Outfitter outsole. Normally $119.95, on sale for $89.95. If anybody is interested in a new hunting boot, this looks like a good deal.
BTW-I just ordered this same boot in Mossy Oak break-up, with the gore-tex supprescent scent lock stuff for $139. 100% moneyback guarantee-gotta love those folks at Cabela's! Sent them an email last night regarding size, what happens if I get the wrong size by accident-they said simply return free of charge, they'll include a free shipping lable and send the right size back to me soon as they receive the return shipment. Pretty good email response considering I sent it last night around midnight, they responded by 10:00 am this morning.
Anyway, just in case anybody is interested, thought I might pass on a little savings info there...
Best of Luck with the upcoming hunts,
Mike

Feet must last, and they don't get any better than these... I will never short on boot purchases, and trust me, these guys have it nailed. They also have reconditioned boots that are remanufactured to new condition..

Obviously I'm too late with this reply if you've already purchased new boots, but I've got to say Danner all the way. Danner, Danner, Danner, Danner, Danner. I've worn Danners for about 12 years now and have never been dissatisfied. They are generally more expensive than the other brands, but I'm a lifelong fan. Simple as that.

Cabela's will take them back even if they are the right size, but not how you pictured them in the catalog. They are even known to take back stuff that has gotten dirty. That is one of the advantages of living not too far from their mail order warehouse (it is HQed in Sydney, with another in Kearney, NE). If you wear them for a day, and they pinch your feet, they will STILL take them back, even if obviously worn or scuffed (but not damaged by anything that you did). Then they mark them to about 1/2 price, sometimes 1/2 of 1/2 price if they have a lot of them, and stuff them in the back room for vultures like me looking for a bargain to pick through. Heck, if the manager is there, they are even open to offers on something they are trying to get rid of! I have gotten a LOT of stuff there cheap. However, returns are not allowed except for defect. Also a good place to look for hunting camo or coveralls. Insulated coveralls start at $30 if you hit the right day.

Well, just wanted to thank everybody again for all the help. The UPS guy dropped off the new boots earlier today. I must say, I made the right choice here, these things are an awesome boot. They are the Cabela's "Bruin" series, with scent supprescent in Mossy Oak breakup (to match my other gear), with 800 gram thinsulate, and 100% waterproof. And yes, they are waterproof-allready tested that out! Great support and I'm confident these will be great for elk hunting. Will get to take them out next week though for bear season to break them in good, see how that goes. With any luck, I'll have a "bruin" of my own tagged this year!
Thanks again guys, and NO Farmr, these will NOT be returned-perfect fit! How I got lucky and manage that, I have no idea. I can't believe those great deals you get back there! What kind of prices do they have on the Mossy Oak quiet series rain gear???
Best of Luck to everybody for the upcoming hunts!
