those fire's you guy's have are scary when my folk's lived in oregon i went out to visit once and they were having alot of fire's then it really made me pay attention because we don't have that here ever.
how many acer's do you own i only own ten and i'm just about to purchase 25 that border's mine i live way out on the end of a dirt road when i get up to go hunting i walk from my house to my stand's and i can ride my wheeler and snowmachine from from barn to all the trail's that is a pricless advantedge for any one who love's the out door's like we do.
my brand new 700 sx viper arrived yesterday i will have to pick that up this weekend and grass drag it on my lawn i spring ordered it and have been waiting for what seem's like for ever.
how's the unemploymeant rate doing in your neck of the wood's our's is in rough shape a year ago i had 41 people working for me now i am down to 29 and dropping weekly and were not hiringi hope thing's turn around soon i liked our economy better when billy boy was in office even with all his fault's.
any way back to hunting i think once you buy a smoke pole and go shoot it you will be hooked they are alot of fun to shoot and are very accurate i like it as well as rifle season but i would hunt in a sling shot season if they had one. bear hunting is the only one i have managed to avoid they have been running there dog's here for a month and they can start shooting the filthy greasy bas#$%%& this saturday i wish them all the luck in the world i turn down at least one every year for the last 5 year's or so there safe as far as i am concerned. well any way good luck on your bear hunting and the same for your elk. probably atv connection will start making us e-mail each other instead of taking up there forum space.
talk to you later mike stay away from those fire's.

Cowboy, those fires sound nasty. Here we have fires, but they are not too big a problem as we have enough roads around and irrigation wells are not too hard to find for re-filling the trucks. You can fill a lot of trucks with a 1200 GPM irrigation pump if you have to. Also, the irrigated fields don't burn well, as they are only 'dry' after the frost.
I don't bow or smoke pole hunt, but know some people that do. Had a friend who was a Marine who had a compound bow set for 125 lb draw and would send the arrow completely through a deer, and into the dirt on the far side so you couldn't hardly find it. Wimp I am, I could barely get the thing drawn back, where he could hold it there seeminly all day. Of course, not knowing what I was doing I looked awkward as heck in the process, giving him a good laugh.

Grizzzzzz: Don't blame this administration for the economy. We are still on Billy's budget. The new fiscal year doesn't start until either Sep 1st or October 1st, so technically we are still on his watch. All 'W' did so far was give us a tax refund. I kind of do wish that he would detail his plans better, though so we would know what to expect. I guess here isn't bad at all for unemployment, if you are willing to work, you can get a job in about 2 or 3 days of trying. If you want to get paid to sit around, well, you will have to wait for an opening in the county road crew to do that. Personally, I don't know anyone personally that doesn't have a job. I hear of a few druggies floating around without work, but I don't know who would hire them. As a matter of fact, my brother is erecting a steel shed, and can't even get a crew together to do it (so we are helping him), and he had to wait over a month to get a Cat out to level the site.

well farmr youre right about the budget but every time we change president's the economy goes bonker's for a while that tax rebate is a joke we could have used that $ to get out of bebt {help} build school's road's or improve our health care system . we could go back and fourth on these subject's for ever and i don't want to start a debate i will listen and respect anybody's view's.
if you don't mind me asking what do you do for work, i'm a second shift supervisor for ethan allen furn. manufacturing is a rough buisness any off shore buisness's can build the same stuff cheaper how do you compete with that.
well any way i got way off the hunting subject today that won't happen again that sound's like a bad *** bow your buddy has my bow is only set at 65 lbs. i still get pass through shot's but i have never shot one farther than 15 yard's. i set my stand up that way on purpose and knock on wood i have never lost a deer due to a poor shot or any reason.

I didn't mean to start any arguments or anything. I agree that whenever a new Pres takes over things get funny for a while until everyone settles in to what he plans to do. I was just pointing out that sometimes a Pres gets credit & blame without actually doing anything do deserve either. I agree taxes are a subject that people will argue until the cows come home. Personally, I think there is enough wase by the Gov't that they could afford everything important if they would get rid of that. Right now we have a gov't paid road grader driver that sleeps half the afternoons away while drawing pay, but we can't get him replaced, and they just keep paying him (GRR!)
Anyway, on to other subjects. I am just what my name implies, a farmer. I raise corn, as well as have a few hogs and cattle. I am not one of those big producers by any means (35 sows, and 60 cows, 150 acres of corn) but I think I will make it if I run a tight ship. Farming is backwards to the usual economy, the better everyone else is doing, the lower the commodity prices, and vice-versa. This year we finally have a glimmer of hope for half decent corn prices. Last year a bushel of corn (a bushel is 56 pounds) was as low as $1.48 locally. Just think- it took about 60 pounds of corn sold to be able to buy one box of corn flakes. This year we are likely to top $2.00, breakeven for me is just over $1.50
Yes, my friend's bow is set HEAVY. Keep in mind this guy was a 6'4", 250 pound marine who could do 30 or 40 one-handed push ups with either arm, and was used to carrying a 50BMG rifle around. He was a believer in firepower, but also was a very good shot. He also had it heavy for elk hunting, and didn't want to always have to re-set the pins.

Farmr

PS I also like Leupold scopes. I have 2 rifles, and wish now that I spent the extra so they both could wear them, instead of just one.

we have alot of small dairy farm's around here two on my road 45 to 50 cow operation's they are family owned and operated so it work's out good for them a couple of my buddy's own 400 head plus operation's and those guy's milk around the clock they have no life but they are doing what they want to do i hate to stop and visit because they are alway's short handed and i end up working my wife and i have horse's or i should say she does so we have a few chore's of our own haying and building fence and that's enough for me.
i'm glad your corn price's are up from last year if you do the work you deserve to get paid for it. what scope's did you put on your gun's cabela's has leupold's on sale right now for 199.00 that is a good price for a vari-x 2 . with all that corn around do you do any coon hunting .
well farmr i hope you have a good on the farm.

I have a Leupold vari-x II on my Winchester model 70 .243 which is about the best shooting rifle I have ever seen, provided you don't rush your shots. If you shoot slowly enough to keep the barrel cool (no more than 2 or 3 quick shots, and then a little break) it will put one after another in one ragged hole at 150 yards, off a sigting-in vice. Me holding it opens up the groups considerably. I also have another .243 in an M77 Ruger stainlee synthetic which bears a Bushnell Trophy scope. It is probably as good a scope as any for the money, but it isn't a Leupold. This gun has good accuracy, but if you shoot it 2 times, you see 2 bullet holes about an inch apart (with the vice - they can be several inches apart if I am holding it). That is my 'ugly stick' as my hunting buddy calls it, but is what I carry if I am going to be walking as My Mod 70 is too pretty to get the stock all scratched up and the bluing worn off. I will take it prarie *******, though as it shoots phenominally well (I finally got the bi-pods mounted) and don't have the foul weather to worry about. Now if only I could hold either one steady enough to do them justice.

I have hogs and beef cattle which seems like a lot on top of the other work, but my in-laws were dairy people a while back, and you DO have to live with the cows if you want to get ahead in that game. The worst thing is you have 2 milkings a day 12 hours apart, and if you vary off the schedule by more than an hour either way on either milking, production will drop off. Makes it hard to goof off any time you want to.
