Deer Hunting
#1
What effect does an atv have in deer hunting. Im thinking the sound and possible smell of it may tend to make the hunt less succesful. What is the minimum distance you think I should keep the atv away from my stand? Thanks

Thanks for the comeback Tommy Boy. So far the atv doesn't seem tobother the deer. Ive got a 4 pt with amuzzleloader a doe with a rifle and couldn't find an 8 pt that I shot in the stomach unfortuanately with my bow. Both bucks were shot within 20 yds of my stand and 15 yds from my atv. It just seems with there keen senses they would be more apt to sense it being around. Such is not the case as I see it so far......

I've often wondered the same thing about moose. I have been moose hunting with ATV's for about 8 years now, and I have seen times when moose just ignore the ATV and stay put. Other times I'm sure there have been moose that have run off unseen before I even got close. My experience seems to be that if you are in an area that sees little ATV hunting pressure, the animals have no reason to be scared, they are just curious. In areas that have more ATV hunting, they have learned to associate them with danger.
Anyone else have similar experiences to bear this theory out?
