The best hunting quad?
#1
What would be the best quad for hunting. What .cc do you like (300, 400, 500) and which model would be good. I'm convinced in getting a Arctic Cat 500I because of the load capacity, ground clearence, travel and reliability. What's your favorite?

I own a Cat for the load and tow capacity like you state. I got the 250 for a lot of reasons, but it's load rating is as much as most of the bigger cc rigs. It won't be the first one there in a dead straight race, but it will haul and crawl with the best of them, and make some much more expensive rigs look silly. If I were to do over I'd get a cat again....probably the 400 or 500.

I have an 02 Kodiak. I really like it for hunting. I use it to take my time and drive on dirt roads and trails. Its an excellent atv for just crawling. Lot of low end power. The engine braking is great as well. I'm not telling you to run out and get a Kodiak but I would consider getting an automatic.
Good luck

I got the Prairie 360. The main reason I chose it is low end, reliable and a great ride. I didn't buy it for speed and its a good thing because top speed is only about 45. I tested them all, with the exception of the Kodiak 450, nobody in my area had one to ride. They all have there good and bad points, just get something you feel comfortable with.

Suzuki King Quad 300 4x4 , mine is a 2002 model (last year they made 'em) . three gear ranges (high, low, super low) locking front differential. cant get it stuck! I think it would climb a tree if I line the front tires up right

I have an AC 400 4X4 my dad owns the Polaris Sportsman 500. Both have been great machines for hunting. (Elk Hunting). They go anywhere and are capable of hauling us and our elk out of any where. They do great in the snow, mud, water, and everything else. Currently I am looking and giving the AC to my wife and buying a new one. I am really impressed with the Bombardier Outlander specs. I haven't had a chance to put one through the paces yet but will soon. So, along with the AC or Polaris I would take a hard look at the Outlander.

Arctic Cat is a great hunting quad. I had a 500 manual with a drop basket on the rear rack. Put the bow in the back and strap the tree stand up front. The chain saw fit perfect in the basket also. If you plan on doing any work in the woods I would recommend getting a drop basket. And an Arctic Cat. Lots of ground clearance and lots of pulling power.
