what is the BEST all around caliber??? If you only could have (((1))) for deer bear moose elk ect.....

I dont think I know what is it ......I just know what I like for the all around gun where I live and that a 300 ultra mag with 180gr XLC Barns .....0 to 300yd 1 shot you are DEAD [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] and I don't care what it is
but its small enough to shoot caribou an still have meat to eat and I would shoot a brown with it and feel safe it is NOT a gun that a would grab out of my case and go out hunting for browns with tho...I hope you under stand what I am saying...........

For the critters you mention I think it would depend on the surroundings. If the country is reasonably open a 338 Mag would be hard to beat. If you're talking about woods or heavy brush, then a heavy loaded Marlin lever gun in 45-70 would fill the bill. JMO

Warrior, the .243 bores have their place all right but moose and bear ain't it. If you're willing to go after bear with that 6 you better make sure it has a short enough barrel so you can turn it on yourself at just the right moment.

many people think that the 30/06 is boring, but i love that cartrige! hunt anything you want with it & if you reload there are enough load combinations to keep you busy for a lifetime!

 

I second the 30-06.

 

I would say a 7mm Mag or the 300mag. Both are flat shooting hard hitting guns, with ample punch to take down ALL north american big game . 338 is just over kill on deer and if you do alot of shooting you will have to figure in the shoulder replacement surgery as well LOL
