Default carrying a gun on a 4-wheeler

So, this thread talks about packing a rifle on an ATV.

I'm curious: how many of you wear a side-arm when you're out in the boonies?

On my ranch WAY the heck out in the Nevada desert (it's 8 1/2 miles to the nearest paved road), we always pack a sidearm. My three favorites are my Kimber 45, my 44 Mag S&W Trail Boss (3" magna-ported barrel), and one of my 44 Mag Rugers - usually a Bisley Vaquero.

Ol,
Nothing better than a S&W 629 (stainless 44 mag ) mountain gun. High ride holster.

Default carrying a gun on a 4-wheeler

I always carry a firearm around the farm. Most of the time I carry a Glock 21 .45. Sometimes I carry a Sig P-226 9mm but usually the Glock because I shoot the best with it. If I am out in the truck bouncing around checking fences and the like I carry and AR-15 outfitted M4 style with an ACOG reflex sight. Nice light, handy rifle. Sometimes take the AK or a highpower during deer season.

Nice to have something along to deal with the feral dogs that are a problem around here. Not so much now but they got really bad a few years back. I also like to take the occasional coyote. I have 6 pelts and need a couple more for a handiwork project. The main reason though is the two-legged variety of animals. Meth fiends running around looking for the Great White Buffalo (anhydrous ammonia tanks) have been known to respond with gunfire and just be generally unpredictable when surprised. You also never know when you might stumble on some guys weed patch and they have also been known to shoot first and ask questions later. Of course you also have general thieves. A neighbor walked into his barn one afternoon and caught some guys stealing his tools. They beat the tar out of him and made off with a few thousand dollars worth of equipment.

Southernutah,
Great minds think alike - My favorite revolver is my S&W 629 Trail Boss 44 mag with 3" magna-ported barrel. I carry this in a high ride belt slide. This piece truly is a great choice for carrying in the desert.
