Probably did before I became a Christian. I used to drink 3-6 packs of Molsen Ale and then whatever anyone else couldn't finish. There were many nights I'm still not sure how I got home. It's God's mercy that I lived. Oddly enough, I still don't miss alcohol. Found other things are harder to battle.

 

I know what you mean about the 3 6 packs. Been There and Done That. Plus two on the way to work and then a couple for lunch. I remember going to work one day and it was snowing and came home that night and the kid was telling me that the lawnmower won't run. Finally gave up that stuff and in two years I saved enough to buy an airplane. All the kids learned how to fly and ended up with good jobs.

I still support the church a little on the side. Every now and then I'll have a Christian Brothers Brandy with a little coke.

Went up to the property today. The woods are still wet. Ended up taking home about a 1/2 cord of ash. Our woods are in frull color. Mother Nature sure knows what shes doing. It's days like this that really get a person thinking how lucky we really are.

I hope to get up there one more time. I'm thinking of getting one of those brush cutters that's like a line trimmer but with a circular saw head on it. My old Homelite doesn't have a big enough arbor for the modern blades. Maybe I'll be able to bodge something together. VT is nice for firewood. White, yellow, silver birch, beech, maple, ash, and a handful of oak trees. I just take whatever isn't in good shape. I could heat my home with what gets blown down up there each year.

 

Went up again today for another trailer load of wood. The wife is off for 5 days so we plan on going up every day that she is off. I knocked down three nice size Black Ash and pulled out another dead Ash (24 inches in dia and 35 ft long) that was lying across our brook. I was surprised how easy the 800 would pull that long trunk.

When it comes to power, it’s hard to beat that 800. In the past I used our 8N with chains if we had to skid a tree out in to the open but looking back, that thing made a mess of the trails compared to the wheeler. I’m not to found of skidding out trees. I would rather block them on site and keep my chain away from the extra mud and dirt from skidding. One of my friends got a receiver as a birthday gift that was made or sold by Thor / Mr. Thor on this site. That is the best thing sense sliced bread. They came out after I purchased my two receivers from the auto store. I need two receivers because the log splitter has a ball and the old trailer has a pin type hitch. I tried that 3 way receiver today. It’s worth its weight in gold.

Once we had the trailer loaded, we went down the old railroad trail for about 35 miles. On the return trip it got a bit chilly but it’s always nice to get out and enjoy the fall colors and the wife enjoys ridding so I’m lucky in that way.

We have a Husky #235 brush cutter with a 10 inch saw blade. Tomorrow I’ll be working on a few new trails so we can get back in to more of the dying ash trees and make a second trail to the deer stand.
