Default New Mexico checking in...

I am a new ATV owner, and I just wanted to say hello!

I have a "new to me" 2006 Suzuki Z400...

I didn't see an appropriate section but I was wondering IF I should buy a helmet? I always wore a helmet when I was younger and rode dirt bikes, but this isn't as clear-cut as that. I live in a very mountainous area, not that many trees but a lot of rocks. I don't intend to race. I don't see anyone wearing them around here (there are a lot of atv owners where I live) but almost none of these folks ride "off-road" in the sense they only ride them on our sub-division roads (dirt, but smooth)... I intend to use my ride to travel my fence-lines (only 40 acres) and that's about it. I hope this doesn't stir up trouble by asking this, I am sure it's been covered a zillion times before.

Thanks and I'm very happy to meet you all!

As Far as the helmet question goes you only have ONE head so you decide??????

LoL you are entirely correct! I suspect I'll wear one most of the time. Now to go get one. I think I'm going to get an open-face helmet and wear goggles I remember hating a full-face helmet when it was dusty. With goggles I can slip them off and clean them easier. I also have a few sets of the military "rubber" eyeglasses that I wear under dust goggles already (I shoot a lot) and I also wear them when I'm out cutting wood. I'm 51 and I don't think I'll be wearing "racing attire" when running the sub-division roads or checking my property line. My next ATV will be more like a utility machine, I need to carry a rifle and the Z400 doesn't quite work so well for that.

Thanks, you said it succinctly... only one brain.

I would suggest a a full face with a qick strap release goggle. This what I use as I wear glasses and have to clean both quite often.

Welcome to the forum. Agree with the one head argument. Add one rock + one spill + one head = pain or death. Helmet is a must to me.

Well, I planned on using these under goggles (the rubber ones):
