Thumbs up Hello from Texas

Hello everyone, I have been out of ATV's or I should say ATC's for over 20yrs...but I came across a great deal and got a 1999 Yamaha Timberwolf 4x4.

The ATV had not been well taken care of and I discovered that the rear differential (or final gear as some say) was shot to h@ll. I have never seen a gearcase in such condition...it was literaly full of caked on mud, grease and no telling what else. It's still not completely clean but it is as good as I can get it!

I thought I could head on over to Ebay and get a decent used one for a good price. Boy, was I wrong! I can't see spending more than $300-$400 for a used one, let alone what they want for a new one.

I joined up here to hopefully meet some other Timberwolf 4x4 owners to find their opinions on the best places to get some good used parts. I live in Houston and was once told about an ATV salvage yard here but have been unable to locate any closer than Beaumont.

howdy, i don't know of any boneyards down towards houston, i only know of one up here in the panhandle over at plainview. surely a rebuild ain't gonna be too bad on that quad. parts probably cheaper than replacing the whole thing, ain't it? hmmm...well, good luck.

Thanks Jaster, of course I will buy the parts and still have a good reliable air cooled ATV, it actually kind of reminds me of my old Honda Big Red. My challenge is doing it for less, not cheap but less.

I was once told that a lot of Yamaha parts are interchangeable...or the term used was "a parts bin bike" because a lot of the same parts are used on multiple models. Is there any truth to this? I am new to Yamaha and have only ever owned Honda or Kawasaki.

Where would one get this cross reference data?

Check with Fly's Cycle in Shepard TX, they have a boneyard. It's on 59 before Livingston.
