looking to buy my first brand new utility quad
#1
Hey everyone,
I have decided I want to buy my first brand new ATV off the showroom floor. I am trading in a 2005 Polaris sportsman 500. I don't know if I want to go back to Polaris because I had problems with this last one. I want something that I can have fun riding in the creek and have enough power to do various tasks around the farm. I thought about getting a Honda 680 rincon but I have heard they have terrible low end torque. Can anyone reccomend something that is extremely reliable and will handle the abuse I put it through?
Thanks,

The Rincon was probably my least favorite quad I've ridden. The low range had lousy engine braking which is important here in New England where the trails are rutted and rocky.
Yamaha Grizzlies are pretty reliable. The 550 and 700 have good power for single cylinder machines. Good all around quad. They also have more HP than the Rincon if I remember right.
I like Can-Ams a lot. The XT package adds a lot of accessories and is a good machine too. Can-Ams tend to have the most HP per cc. The 500 has almost as much as a lot of the 700 class machines, the 650 as much as some of the 700-800 cc machines, the 800 and 1000 are just crazy fast. They also now have the 500 in a bargain priced machine called the L.
Suzukis tend to have the best bang for the buck in a good all around pretty reliable machine. I believe they have a 500 and a 750.

The Rincon Has no low range just a 3 speed hence its pathetic 850lb tow capacity.
Coming off a 500 Sportsman you know how many times low range is handy.
The 550 Grizzly or 500 KQ would be my pick or the 700/750 version if more power is needed.
If Honda was my thing then the new Rubicon atleast it has IRS, Diff lock now and a super low 1st gear with a higher tow rating then the Rincon. It will feel down on power compared to your SP500 though.

800 is a proven, pretty bulletproof engine and drivetrain. 850 had its problems early on in the first couple of years in 2009-2010. Haven't heard much lately. Very powerful and fast. Right up there with Can-Ams 800 cc.

If I was looking at Polaris I like the new 570 DOHC Sportsman rated at 44hp.
Bang for the buck champ I think.
Defiantly a power upgrade from a 500H.O. 44hp vs 36hp.
They even have that motor in their side by side 570 ACE.
So in a lighter ATV it must go pretty good.
