I'd consider an Ace 570 maybe. 44 hp sounds a lot better than 32 hp. Not sure about the actual utility abilities of the Ace but I guess it has high/low range and 4x4. Not to mention decent storage with the sealed storage box in front and the small box in the back. The extra weight of the Ace over the Sportsman might help in doing something like plowing snow as several have pointed out that weight helps push snow as much or more than hp. The Ace is basically considered to be a scaled down version of a Rzr that you ride by yourself. I'm sure people have used a Rzr to plow snow and it is capable of it but you won't see it very often.

 

That is what Polaris is claiming. The prostars are a dohc design, and it has power to spare for its size. Probably why you don't see the engine size, just hp all over the polarise website. To much bias based on cc vs what is actually brought to the table.

 

It can be done I guess . The new 450 single Outlander is 38hp that's pretty good for a 450cc.

 

It must be a time bomb. My YFZ is rated at 39hp stock.

 

Hey guys.. I ended up going with a 2006 Sportsman 500 EFI.. has only 300 miles and winch and plow with quick release. Got it for $3800! Think I did ok.

1. Given it has only 300 miles, I read it could still be in break in mode since it is under 500.. still true with it being 9 years old?

2. Any recommended maintenance I should look into yet?

Its not that much more than other quads of similar displacement. I'm sure it does have to rev a little higher than say a Honda Foreman 500. Its not like they're revving it to the moon to squeeze 50 hp out of it. The YFZ being a manual clutch and weighing about 250 lbs less will obviously still easily smoke it. The 450L basically puts out the same amount of power as a Yamaha Grizzly 550.

 

I saw an Ace 570 demo model listed for $5499 at a local dealer. While I never considered buying an Ace for myself because of the price, if I can get one for that price it does have my attention. My local township allows golf carts and utvs to ridden legally on city streets(not atvs) and from the language of the city ordinance, the Ace qualifies as a utv since it has seat belts and a steering wheel, 2 things no atv has. I would have to add a rearview mirror and turn signals to the Ace to satisfy their full requirement for street legality but that wouldn't cost much.

 

I though all the 450 Motocross motors were rated at 45hp? That's what I call a time bomb.

The Ace looks like a sportsman that was converted into something sit in rather then sit on.

The EFI 450s make about 60hp now. I bought my 08 CRF450 in 2010 as a leftover and its getting its first top end this winter. It may not be neccesary as it still makes good compression but I feel like I'm on borrowed time now. It's been very reliable for what it is despite the Hell I've given it
