No break in time for this little seal but if the inner lip or outer edge was dry when you installed it,it may have taken a little times for the seal to get a little more supple so to speak for it to seal properly. That why most instructions say to lubricate the inner portion of the seal before installation and some even say to use a film of loctite around the perimeter of the oil seal to help keep it in place and to help seal any possible leaks. Ktm suggested using locktite on most of their seals and so did the service manuals on Vespa scooters that we sold for awhile. Good idea actually.

They also say to use the seal protectors to install the seals also but most techs never did... Sometimes you can take the manuals instructions with a grain of salt. Inner part of the seals need to be lubricated as dry starts against metal are never good for them. Plus using loctite around the seals,I was hesitant too until Ktm and Vespa manuals started recommending it.

Seal is installed correctly but looks like it's not quite flush. Don't think that'd matter that much though. Since you said that oil has slowed from dripping at the weep hole hopefully that's because the inner seal's becoming a little more supple and conforming to the oil pump shaft better.Again that's where I disagree with the manual on seals being absolutely dry.

What we used on all engine seals at the shop was Race Tech or Pro Circuit seal grease. We used it mainly for fork seals but great for other applications and a lot finer than most greases you can use.Race Tech Ultra Slick Grease - Motorcycle Superstore Red or green color, doesn't matter.
