Default 1989 Trail Boss

Hey folks. New to the forum. Had a few four wheelers in my past and just stumbled upon a basket case. 89 Trail Boss 250 After a few days of no spark and looking it over I replaced the CDI box, secondary coil, plug, cleaned carb and checked all connections I could find. I finally got spark to the plug but she will not start. Electric start needs work. It turns but is not engaging flywheel so I am limited to pull start which is not bad. I suspect some gunk in the starter area that may be preventing engagement. My question is the reverse limiter switch. I am told that disconnecting the black wire may help in the start as it may be overriding. I cannot locate said black wire. Can anyone tell me where it is to give it a shot and where to disconnect from Bike has good compression so I am hoping for a long shot thanks again great site here
