Default New to the group, a novice, I need help

I have a bear tracker, its old. I can't get it to start. I put in a new carb, new battery, it turns over and wants to fire but just will not start. What can i do next? It used to run every year with zero issues. Ive tried starter fluid and it runs on it but its seems like its not getting gas. Fuel is on. New fuel,

compression good? Aftermarket carb? The aftermarket carbs have been an issue for a long time, rebuilt original is a far better bet!

How do I check the compression? Take the spark plug out and try and start? With my thumb over the port? Again, completely limited on fixing this stuff. I believe it was an after market carb. They are junk right out of the box? It ran once and I'm right back at it the same place.

Welcome to the forums.

You'll need to get a compression checker. May be able to rent one from an auto parts store like AutoZone. Not ok expensive to buy one.

If you want to fix them, you need to do some research. Luckily today we have things like youtube that give good ideas on what is needed. You have a lot to learn so time to get busy reading. Lots of folks enjoy the fixing as well as the riding part. Years back my son wanted a 4wheeler but like most kids didnt have any money. Bought him a machine for 50 bucks. It was in 3 large boxes in pieces. We brought it home and I bought him a factory service manual for his machine. Took him about 8-9 mnths to get it together and rode it for a couple months then traded it on a bigger 4wheeler. Has had no problem working on them ever since!
