Hi, I'm Kieth and my family has a couple hundred acres near Lampasas, TX with a number of atv's and a dirt bike all of which were bought used 13 - 20 years ago and are old like me. I've taken on the task of revitalizing all of them one at a time.
I started with our 96 Yamaha warrior which had a bent frame, bent right front lower control arm, bald tires, bad front brake master cylinder and gummed up carb.
Next was the 81 Honda XL250 which had been in the barn for over 10 years with a rusted up gas tank, bent handlebar, missing air cleaner, bald tires,
worn out chain and sprocket, and a carb that looked like it was black as tar inside.
Those 2 look and run great now.
My current project is the 86 TRX200 SX which has bad front brakes and master cylinder, all the plastic fenders are badly cracked and missing the rear supports. The carb was a little dirty but considering
it sat in the barn not running longer than any of the others it wasn't that bad. After I cleaned it up and put it back on the old boy started up but I couldn't get it to run smooth with carb adjustments, but it was
burning oil so bad I figured why mess with it until I get that fixed. I'm in the process of overhauling the upper end of the motor. After cleaning and polishing the valves, replacing the valve seals, and putting
the cam chain on the sprocket in the correct position (found it 2 teeth off when taking it apart) I put it back together and started it up. It was running much smoother but to my disappointment it began smoking
badly after about 45 seconds. Got it back apart now and trying to decide what path to take.
Wish me luck and any advice is welcome.
