Default Replacing the axle bearings

Hello, I have a 2000 Polaris 425 xpedition 4 x 4. I am trying to replace the rear axle bearings in the LH rear housing. In order to do so we need to remove the axle from the housing. We have saturated the axle with penetrating oil for several days and tried to drive the axle out to the right side but it will not budge. Is there a circle clip that we are missing or do I need to just use force. Parts are hard to find for this old of a bike so I dont want to destroy the housing or the axle. From the attached drawing it looks to me like the axle needs to be driven out towards the left and no the right.

Thanks in advance
Dallas A
