Default Clear-guard headlight protectors

Just purchased a set of these from ebay and was wondering if anyone had them installed. They are supposed to protect the headlights from damage from flying rocks and also look cool to boot. My main concern is the loss of light output at night with the tinted covers installed. They adhere to the light and are intended to stay on day and night. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Scotia650,

I sent an email to Clear-guard a while back since I had the same concerns. This is what he replied.

The blue and Yellow tinted kits do not diminish the
performance of the headlight. The smoke (30% tint)will
diminish the light output.

The kit can be removed after installation, but can not
be reinstalled (adhesive will be damaged during
removal). We can ship to canada, I would need your
mailing address to determine actual Shipping cost
(FedEx and ground USPS).

Regards,

John

Kawidan,

Did they happen to mention what % the smoke tint will diminish the light output? I have both the yellow and smoke kits here. I like the look of the smoke better and can live with some reduced output but don't want to completely lose the use of the headlights. Their website shows photos with the covers installed and it looks like a fair amount of light gets through. Also, what kind of cost are you looking at to get them to your door, I paid between $40-45 can. by the time they landed here. Thanks for the input.

I'm assuming 30% light decrease with the smoke ones. That looks like it will affect the lights quite a bit. If you could find a piece of 30% window tint and put it over your light, it would be the same thing. I haven't purchased a kit yet. I'm debating between smoke and blue, but I think I'd like to go with blue. Haven't ordered them yet. The smoke really looked good.

Would it be possible to put the kit temporarely over your lights at night to see the results. Are you planning on keeping both kits?

I'm not sure of the price from clear guard directly. I was going to order them from E-bay. Might be interested in one of your kits if you decide to sell one.

650t,

Looks pretty sharp, thanks for the pics.

Kawidan,

I ordered one set for me and one for a friend but he's afraid that the smoke is going to be too dark. Once he decides I'll let you know. If he doesn't want them I'll sell them for what I paid.

I have the yellow ones on my 650. No you cant hold the lenses over the headlights cause the backing looks like a paperbag sort of. But with the higher rated bulb and the covers, you had not be coming the other way when i have my high beams on.......Rob

Thanks robh,

I'm pretty confident with the performance of the yellow covers, just concerned with the smoke tint. Maybe higher output bulbs would help. Thanks again.

Kawidan,

Do you have a preference between the yellow & smoke.

I'd prefer smoke.
