Default Oil Leak!!!

I checked on my bike today and oil was all over my garage floor! i probably lost a half a quart. I looked under the bike and my skid plate was bashed up a little bit. I tightened my plug up, and now i will have to wait and see. Has anyone else had problems like this? I can't imagine that i would have damaged my motor!? I am not that hard on it. I have had it on a few rocks but nothing major. I am just hoping i did not damage the engine. One thing i do know is that stock skids are crap. Where is the best place to buy skid plates?

Thanks for posting!

OXLITES are good

"strong as an ox, but light"

They are steel, not aluminum. Heavy.
I have used them on my Big Bear since day one without worry.
They are bashed in, bent and pounded, but never have failed!

My only complaint is the hardware used to install them -
if I was making them, I would have the hardware NOT protrude towards the ground -
the mounting should be from the bottom up -
after they were installed, I cut the excess and filed the bolts.

good luck

Pull the skid plate off and find where that oil is coming from, if the oil plug wasn't loose. You don't want to run out of oil in the middle of nowhere!

I got it figured out, I believe that it was just the oil plug. I ordered some Ricochet Skids too. I want to make sure i have these on for my trip to Moab later this month. Thanks guys.

Default Oil Leak!!!

Matt 650,

I felt foolish earlier this year when I brought my machine in for warrenty service due to oil leaking all over my garage floor. The dealer called back a few hours later that it was all fixed. The crankcase breather hose came off of the bottom of the air box and was blowing oil out onto the side of the engine. I hope this is hopeful. It will only blow oil out when the engine is reved up.

The stock skid plates are junk. While i'll admit I hit some serious stumps and rocks, they crinkled like tinfoil.I now have the ricochet skid plate on my p650 and it's a great unit. It fit perfectly and bolted right up. Seems very sturdy and thick. You'll be happy. Make sure to torque your drain plug to the specified 14.5 ft/lbs and it won't come out. Don't overtighten and strip the soft oil pan
