Default Help regarding 2001 KVF 400

A friend of mine has a 2001 Kawasaki KVF 400 (Canadian Model) and it has a hard to find oil leak. On ocasion there has been oil in the airbox. He has had the bike on a lift and it appears to be dry. Is the carb. blowing back oil into the filter? If so, what is causing this. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know about the 400's, but the 650's are VERY sensitive to overfilling, if it's just a little too full of oil, it blows it into the filter box... check the oil level... Have A GREAT Day, Go Four Wheel'in !!!!! WAM

You said "leak". Does that mean the oil level is actually going down? Or is the oil in the airbox the only symptom? If it's the latter, the cause is probably what newbeatle said: too much oil.

Default Help regarding 2001 KVF 400

Hey thanks for such quick response. Anyways, there was oil in the airbox so it could be a simple thing as to much oil. I will have the owner check his bikes oil level. NovaKaw650, there also was oil on the ground so I am not sure if the oil in the airbox found a way out. Anways thank you for all your help.

Yes the oil will find a way out of the airbox on a 400. When you ride a long time I seen a 400 that if you open your oil dipstick after a run it would bubble out of the dipstick hole does yours? What oil are you running?

Raybourque, It is most likely the simple matter of overfilling like newbeatle and novakaw650 say.
If you find it doesnt solve the problem do a search for a post I made called "oil in airbox solution (cheap mod) " posted on may 13th this will fix the symtom if not the problem.

Yes overfilling will cause that, mine has done it a time or two. If I ride all day and then pull the dipstick, sometimes it will bubble out. Even when I know its not overfull. Guess its the nature of the beast.
