CDI a joke or what?

Ok i am beginning to become a little bit skeptical about the Diamond G CDI. It was supposed to be out before Christmas, Then January, then early March etc. etc.. Now its closing in on July and still no CDI. I understand a few delays and can wait patiently. But what gives!!! Anybody know whats going on?

It's not just Diamondg. I talked to MSD last spring and it was 6 months, then in the fall it was 6 more months and this spring 6 more months. ???????? I figure it will come out sometime before I'm ready to retire. The first one to hit the market will probably get the majority of the sales so I think it's a race to see who gets their's completed first. Oh well, I hope it's worth all the wait.

yep I am starting to think its a joke too. especially with <> G realeasing those modules. If the new P 700 has a different CDI set up, then these aftermarket people only will have 2 model years of bikes to sell the new CDI too, that's a pretty limited market since only a few P650 owners will even buy the new CDI (maybe 1,000?) and it would not suprise me a bit to see <> G just give up on the project and sell the modulators only.
Kawasaki might have killed out the P650 aftermarket CDI project by limiting its market to the point its not worth the R+D time to produce it.
However, I am still keeping my fingers crossed that someone will come through.

These guys have already spent a bunch of money on R&D. Someone posted earlier that diamondg has invested $50,000 so far. However, even if they sold only 1000 units at $300 that would still mean a profit of $250,000, not bad in my books. If I were them my main concern would be to get my unit to market first so as to have the largest potential customer base to draw from. I quess we'll just have to wait and see how that race pans out.

Had to rethink the numbers a little. They still have the cost of producing each unit as well. Lets say $100 each for a nice round figure. So that would be 1000 units at $300 (300,000) less the cost of each at $100 (100,000) and the R&D of $50,000 for a profit of $150,000. Still pretty good and well worth the effort to produce and bring to market. These #'s are just guesses on my part but I'm just trying to point out that the potential is there for diamondg or MSD if they can give us what we all want, more ponies.

Not to mention they may only sell 1000 in the first run, but as the 650 starts getting sold (USED) at lower costs the first thing people do is think of how they can make it better. So just because the guy who owns it today dont buy one, dont mean the guy who owns it next year wont.

The CDI's are incredibly complex ... much more so than most of these companies even realized when starting these projects ... they control & have input from so many functions, including the speed, 4 X 4 systems, & KBEC systems ( which is only part of the reason the KFX 700 CDI won't work on a Prairie ) ... then the new CDI has to be able to operate in extreme conditions ( heat, viberations, wetness ), then they must be significantly different enough from the stock units to avoid patent lawsuits... ... The internet transfers information so fast that if any of these companies let out that they are working on this project, every Tom, Dick & Harry Knows about it, & wants one right away... as far as the new 700 Prairie, & the CDI being different ... there are still literally hundreds of thousands of 650 Prairies out there that aren't going to disapear as soon as the 700 comes out... I only hope that D.G. & the other company ( s ) working on it will continue to get one out ... if nothing else the experiece should help with the production of a CDI for the 700... Have A Good One ... WAM
