P650 poll - everyone please look!
400, it is a relatively well known fact that the 400 carbs will drain into the engine when trailering. The 400 is gravity fed so it can get a lot of gas from the tank on a long trip.
Gosh fishead, I guess I have to eat my words, if you actually get gas in your crankcase with the fuel switch turned off I don't know what to say. Does it happen when you leave it sitting, or only when trailering. Maybe some of us are just getting a little gas from the bowl every time the quad rides in the truck.
I would hate to have to tell people to turn the gas off and then drive around some to prevent this. I was hoping turning the gas off would be enough. Has worked for me.

Well I was on a 650 today (not mine... Reds650) and we were running at a good clip we stopped and I checked the oil... it smelled like oil not gas. BTW Blair with his frequency generator and another guy that had the Freedom Generator dragged and Blair pulled away from the other guy and Blair was runnig bauld stockers. I guess the other guy was sleeping LOL. I drove his 650 for about 10-15 km on the ralley and I was very Impressed with his frequency generator again, it's now a real big moster.... I will be putting his generator on mine when It's back up and running good.

When I use the quad its usually trailered before I ride, so it's hard to say. My oil seems to still hold its viscosity, thats to the naked eye though, It's just a small lingering smell thats there all the time. I dont think it is anything to be alarmed at as long as a fella changes his oil regulary. Who knows....

I checked my oil and no smell of gas was present. I only use mine on the weekends and when I store them in the shed I then shut the valve off. My oil currently has about 15 hours use on it and it is still very clear and right on the full mark. I'll probablt start turning the fuel off more often now.

It seems that after every ride on my p650, there is a tremendous amount of pressure build up in the fuel tank - from heat and splashing around ect. I realized this after unscrewing the gas cap and hearing a large amount of hissssssssss. I tightened the cap , rode some more , stopped and checked it , and again a hissssssssss of pressure in the tank. After several more tests, I've come up with a theory that this pressure is causing the fuel to be pushed past the needle valves in the carbs and thus down into the the crankcase oil. I have gone the route of diconnecting the hose where it goes into the check valve and running a longer hose under the seat so that the tank can vent like it should. Maybe Kawasaki had to use the check valve to pass some kind of emission test - thanks lawyers!!

You're right , MotoXtreme - Alltoys has made the same mod with success. Extreme pressure buildup (enough to overpower the carb inlet needle) would also explain why people have filled cylinders full of gas just because the choke (enrichener valve) was sticking open. A sticking enrichener valve can't hydro-lock a cylinder unless excess fuel is being pushed into the carbs in the first place.

I trailered my two Kawi's for 10 hours on my way home last Saturday. When I went to start them to unload them they would not turn over. I had to push the starter button repeateadly over and over until the fuel was worked. You could smell gas during this process. I had the exact same problem on both Kawi's. Once they would turn over freely it took alot of cranking of the starter to start them, with full throttle or else they would not even try to start. Next time I trailer them I will try something different when I start them or I will stop every couple of hours and just start them up for a minute.
