WildWill, sounds like you have a fast quad! Just FYI, those scott's oil filters only filter down to 30 microns or so, which is similar to a stock filter. The amsoil or mobil 1 filters trap particles down to 10 microns... Anyway, I know it's nice to have a reusable one, but it's not delivering quite the same level of protection available elsewhere.

As for the gauges, it sounds like they aren't too bad to install, just run them in line with one of the coolant hoses... Anyone else have one installed?

Lightman,

Thanks for the info on the filters, I didn't know that. I like the Scotts because of the amount of oil it flows and it is cleanable. I changed my oil every 5 hrs (silkolene).

I have heard good things about Amsoil and there products. Do you or anyone else used there oil and filter.

FYI. If you hook up a temp gauge in the coolant line make sure it is before the coolant enters the radiator, this way it reads the hotter temperature after it leaves the heads and not before it leaves the radiator which will give a cooler reading than what actual is.

I use the amsoil ATV/4-stroke oil, its a fully synthetic 0w-40, in my engine and front diff. I also use the amsoil smf-103 filter. I have changed the oil so far every 500 miles, or approx 50 hours in my case. The oil comes out looking absolutely brand new, not even a hint of black. Note that the oil change interval recommended in the book is twice what i'm doing, at 1100 miles or 100 hrs. I'm going to send a sample of my oil to a lab for analysis the next time I drain it, to determine how just how much longer I can safely go on the oil. My guess is its probably fine for 1100 miles or more, and I'm just being picky. Changing the oil every 5 hours is nuts, no offense!

Wildwill,
Where did you mount your temp guage? Do you have any pics?

BadPrairie,

I mounted it where the ignition key is and relocated my key switch above where it use to be. There is a picture on my page in the gallery. I used the plastic inner fender guard as protection from rocks for the tubing. I drilled a 2 in. hole in the bottom corner of the guard and put a rubber end cap in the hole to allow the end of the gauge to fit in. It was the only place I think it could be protected and was easy to see.

Lots of luck.
