Default Is it better to be wider in the front then the rear?

I was just noticing that on all the sport quads out there, the front end in narrower then the rear. But on my V-Force, the front is wider then the rear. I'm 47" wide in the front, and 46" wide in the rear. It would seem that it would be better to be 45" in the front. Does anyone have any idea why the 700 was made that way. No other sport quad is like that, that I know of.

I've heard that if the machine has a tendency to push, you should go wider in the front. I can't really see how an inch either way would make any difference.
