Considering the front end on the Prairie. 400PrarieXLT's setup looks good for keeping the winch higher. I was riding with someone with a Prairie a couple weeks ago and he had his mounted low in the opening below the metal grid. It just seemed too low and was always submersed in mud / water.

 

I got mine from: ATV Outfitters Winch Mounts I also like the fact that it protects the winch from smacking trees and stuff. Also when you get stuck and need the winch, as stated above, its not a foot down in the mudd. Im betting one could make something like this work for a 650 Prarie. It was 49.00 with free shipping.
