my friend has a 03 650 praire and the other day he drove it and noticed that his speedo was not going over 0 mph and also his 4wd was not working? any ideas on what is wrong?

 

speed sensor got crushed/damaged/unplugged. It's by the pivot for the foot brake. Take a look.

i had the exact same problem with my speedo and 4wd, but my problem turned out to be something in the CDI was fried. The first thing the dealer did was change the speed sensor but it didn't fix the problem, then they switched out the CDI and it took care of the problem.

Nyroc, great directions on installing the black spring. i made a spring compressor just like yours and it work great, it took about 30 minutes from start to finish. with the black spring i can wheelie with ease, high or low range. with a little pull on the handle bars i can stand it straight up while doing about 15mph, maybe even faster. thanks!

 

When my speed sensor failed, the speedo worked fine, just the 4WD didn't work. Might be the speed sensor, pretty cheap fix to try, $40 from Ron Ayers.
