Default key switch

hey, after a ride in PA last weekend my key switch got gummed up, after i went through some big ol' puddles water and mud got in the slot where the key is inserted. when i got it back to the trail head i noticed that the key was a bit hard to take out and insert back in, a couple days later it completely seized up and i had to pound the key in. now it seems fine, what can i do to prevent this from happening again? spray some wd-40 in the key switch? thanks

Rust Check works very well in the key hole.
