Default My V-Force vs. Banshee Drag and vs. Z400 Jumping today

I had the opportunity to pick up a couple of used quads this week pretty cheap as a package with a 14 ft trailer due to a guy getting a divorce....a 96 Banshee bored 60 over with dual FMF Fatties(??) and a stock 96 Blaster. I didn't need the quads, but thought they might be fun to play with.

This Banshee runs like a bat out of hell so my buddy and I decided it was time to do some drag racing with the V-Force We ran them on about a 300-400 ft straight away on a back field on my farm. Out of about 6 drags, the V-Force (only mod is Aliens) smoked him 5 out of 6 times by 2-3 quad lengths. He got a better holeshot on me one time and beat me .....and he is a very agressive rider and knows how to handle a fast machine well....he weighs 165lbs and I am 220lbs(FYI)........however, after riding the banshee, with all the top end it has, given it had enough room I think it just might catch the V and pass it with little problem.

Later we decided to do some jumping with him on the Z400 (his quad of choice). The ground was flat with a dirt ramp we made with my tractor(it has a bucket...nice to have for this kind of thing). To his amazement I could out distance him a full quad length! Our wives had a good time watching us and marking/judging our landings. We must have jumped around 20 times each and he only beat me a couple of times out of about 20 jumps! Anyone who has driven a Z400/KFX400 knows this is one of the best machines on the market right now, so what does that say about the Mighty V-Force!?!

We didn't measure the jumps today with a tape but did the other day, and my personal best the other night from the tip of the ramp to rear wheels landing was 36.5 ft........not bad for a 516lb beast with a 220 lb rider My 11year old (80lb) son's best was 33 ft on a 300ex.

I got a clutch spring and 56 gram weights from Mike Penland today.....can't wait to see what they will do......

Geez............I love my V-Force.........have you hugged your V today?

The spring Mike sent me is 2 3/4" long and is florescent green with a hand painted white stripe down the side. I asked Mike to give me the stuff to go faster and this is the stuff he sent me. I noticed that SAMCOEDS V-Force is also tricked out with the 56 gram clutch weights. The weights say "EPI" on the sides.

I hope I can figure out how to install this stuff this weekend. I did not have the tools before (clutch puller and spring compressor) so I purchased them from Mike as well.

I also have a dark green spring from HOTSEAT and have not tried it yet, since I did not at the time have the tools. It is 3" long. I asked around on the forums if anyone was using this one but did not get any response.

I will give a report soon, hopefully on how well Mike's stuff and advise works out. He has been racing for a LONG time (he is on Team Green with Picture and Bio on the ATV Racing section of kawasaki's website).....time will soon tell.

If the 3" spring you have has the same size coils as the 2 3/4" you just bought, the longer spring will give you more RPM's.
You don't need either a clutch puller or spring compressor to make the weight and spring changes.

Hi KevinM,

So, you think the green spring is going to offer the best results if the coils are about the same?

What is the best way to get that reverse bolt off? I was looking things over the other night and tried to get it off but the flywheel just spins. Yes, I am not really experienced at this mechanical stuff.

Also, thanks Kevin for your many good and informative posts, they have been a great help....

The length of the spring and the thickness of the coils determine the rate of the spring. Since you already have the Alien duals you're going to need to pick up a lot of RPM's to get the shiftout point up where the power is being made. If the engagement of the longer spring isn't too harsh its going to put you closer to the sweet spot.

An air gun is by far the easiest way to get the nut off. If you don't have access to one, you may be able to carefully wedge a crowbar into the clutch to keep it from moving.

Thanks Kevin,

I am just going to bite the bullet and get an airgun tomorrow. I did compare the springs and yes the coils do look like they are the same so I will try the taller dark green spring first and see how that goes.

I am assuming the weights go opposite of each other (well, actually that is what Mike said...) and screw right onto the outside of the clutch housing plate.......correct?

This LINK on NYROC's site is helping me visualize what needs to be done(even though it is for a Priarie 650).

KevinM or anyone that knows....

I am getting ready to install the 4 clutch weights on the V-Force, and need to know if the weights are to be in equally spread out positions......meaning one at top and one at bottom and then one at each side.

Thanks......
