buildin' a mojave...worth it???
#1
Is building a mojave worth it??? Is it ever going to be able to run with 250r's and other two strokes? I have a 250r and a mojave and I want to build the mojave for my girlfriend, but I don't know if it is going to be worth it. I called 4-stroke tech and he wants to put a 330 kit in it, a black box, a port job, and a supertrapp pipe. ($1100 worth of work)But is it going to keep up with the 2-strokes in the dunes, or should I just sell it for a tecate or something else???

"worth it" is a relative term...If your goal is to keep up with 250rs and banshees or 400exs, then no it will not be worth it. What you will have is a fun, easy to ride mount that is a lot of bang for the buck.(assuming the Buck part doesnt get too high)...I would also be careful in trying to squeeze too much out of a mojave engine.. You dont want to ride a hand grenade. If your girlfriend weighs a lot less than you, it is possible to have a fast bike in a modified mojave, but dont expect her to keep up or pass a two stroke...Also most of the females Ive talked to prefer a fourstroke over a two for obvious reasons. Dont rush into anything! Your mechanic is seeing $$$$$$$$$

You can build a Mojave to hang with and beat 250Rs and 400ex's. A 350 kit will keep up with a 400ex, easy, not sure about the 330. I wouldn't go with the Supertrapp, the restrict to much air = less power, go with a open end pipe. I have my 1990 built and it will easily beat up piped Warrior's and it's only three bike likes away from a 400EX. If you decide not to build up the mojave, wait a couple of months for the new Kawie.

i just talked to Mickey up at FST yesterday... he doesnt make the 353 kit for the mojave anymore because when they changed the stroke so much it wouldnt hold up... the 411 mojave he built for TEAM GREEN RACING last year holds up great as long as it is put together right... these are all words from his mouth... everyone that has gotten the 330 kit from him or had him put it in have loved the improvement.. im getting ready to do the same with my 00 Mojave soon. as far as the pipe... the Supertrapp IDS 2 is the best exhaust to put on the mojave... i bought the original IDS last yr for my 99 and it made a big difference, and considering Mickey Dunlop recommended it to me and he builds Mojave's im sure he would know what he's talking about... by the way... if you look at pics of the 411 they raced last year in the GNCC's it does have a Supertrapp IDS on it... as far as a Mojave keeping up with 250R's in the dunes... forget it!! period... the dunes are not the Mojave's element.. trails and mx tracks are more like it... i ride tracks personally and have little to no problem keeping up.. 90% of it is rider ability...

I haven't had much luck with FST. Niether has anyone I know. He offers the big bore kits, but they have no reliblity. The only reason they put the Supertrapp on it is becuase they are sponsered buy them. TC Racing, uses a Supertrap shell with his own guts. He is not paid to endorse Supertrapp products like FST. Him and I have been talking and after several dyno-run the Cobra JET truned out to be the best pipe and the all of the Supertrapp's didn't even compare! So the Supertrap isn't the best pipe for anything! Your right the Mojave won't keep up with my 250R in the dunes. It will come close in the trails and some muddy mx stuff. Maybe i should have said that.
