IMS 4 gal tank from rocky mountain
#1
I got my fuel tank from rocky mountain the other day and noticed that it would not fit where my stocker was. Also I thought it was weird that this new tank had 4 recessed nuts on both the front and back of the tank yet there is no way this thing mounts.(it wouldn't even fit down into position with the black plactic guard removed)also the stock fuel cap doesn't fit it. For $200.00 I expected a littler better than that. When I got the unit I noticed that it had some scratrches on the sides already like it may have been returned once before. Anyone who has put an aftermarket tank on their V please fill me in. This thing guzzles the fuel and I need more storage. Thanks-Carl

Mudfoot,
The IMS tank requires the removal of the stock plastic rock guard that goes below the tank. Also, the stock gas cap doesn't fit the IMS tank; IMS should have provided you with a cap for the larger tank. The tank does take about an hour or so to install (a lot of bolt removal, etc.), but the extra 1.4 gallons (4.6 total) is well worth it.

I will be sending the tank back to rocky mountain I think I was shippes the wrong part. No fuel cap, with this unit; the main problem was that even with that black plastic outer guard there was no way that this 4.0 gal tank would fit. Where did you order your tank from? I'd rather have the 4.6 anyway I'm sure you know how fast the V sucks it down. Also did your 4.6 use stock mounting hardware...this tank had 4 recessed nuts on both the front and rear side of the tank well theres nothing that would corrospond to these nuts???

I ordered my tank directly from IMS (I got their information from their website); much quicker delivery time than Rocky Mountain, which seems to take forever, and nothing is ever in stock. The tank uses the stock mounting parts - you have to remove some parts such as washers and rubber grommets (sp?) from the stock tank and transfer them onto the IMS tank. The instructions weren't the greatest, but even I (not the greatest mechanic) was able to figure it out. I would get the tank directly from IMS.

I got mine direct from IMS as well and the tank went in without much problem. You should have gotten a fuel cap with it. Be sure you wash the new tank out as it is covered inside with plastic dust. I used gas to rinse mine out with.
