Pro Wedge tire test
#1
Tonight, I will be getting my tires mounted this afternoon. I will first go for a ride and shoot some hills and sandy areas with my stockers then I will come back and use the pro wedges and see the difference. I will also find out the top speed difference because the pro wedges like to ballon out.

Well the test is complete. I still have one more test though.
Top Speed run, same distance. GPS proven
Holeshots (stock): 119 kph
Pro Wedge: 114 kph
It seems the pro wedges do not let me go as fast, I think its because of the ballon affect they have. They increase their size and the gearing becomes to tall on the top end. I believe I would need different clutching for these tires.
Also the pro wedges had the advantage and disadvantage. The advantage was I was low on fuel, so less weight. The disadvantage was the bike was running hotter. I might do another high speed test near the lake where the air is cooler, it always seems to run like a top along the lake.
The traction test, I would say the traction has increased in sand and hill shots. I was hitting a hill that I would spin up before and not get a good launch now with the pro wedges I can climb the hill better and get a great launch.
There is another test I want to do too. The tires can be turned around so that the treads face forwards so they bite into the sand more. I will try this tomorrow to see how they work this way.
Also the wedges like to push in the sand, they don't turn or slide in sand as well as the stockers. They are a drag tire by the looks of it. So far I am happy.
I'm very surprised on my top speed though, 119 kph is great!
EDIT: Also the Pro Wedges weigh considerbly less when both mounted on aluminum wheels.

Today I turned the tires around so the tread bites into the ground and I do get better traction. Climbing hills the front end will now come up when before it would not. Hills are no challenge now, any hill is easy to blast up. I don't have a ton of deep soft sand but there is one place and they do better than my stockers forsure.
I would love to try these tires in a desert and comapre them to stockers or paddles.

This is very interesting. I have been using pro wedges in the winter for thier incredible traction and was wondering how they do in sand.. We will try to do some duning this year out in Idaho . I found if the pressure is low (around 1 to 2 psi )they tend to push but raising the pressure to 4 or 5 balloons them up for less turning resistance but they will wear out the center paddles very quickly if you run on hard surfaces. Ive never had one puncture and have been using the same set for the last 5 years. I wonder how they compare to dedicated sand tires. Im cheap and would like to use these instead buying more.

i think you were one of the ones I told that prowedges rock in the sand!
look, ive seen them first hand in drags and stuff and they kick it, man. Thats all that yamaha dude that we rode with would use on his super HP banshee. he beat everything's @ss!
because of their look (they arent low profile and agressive looking)- prowedges are often passed up when people choose sand tires, but we have seen them and used them and have been very happy with their performance. sometimes you do have to drop a tooth on the front sprocket to get a better launch and gearing with them (depending on the machine).
you can also try the maxxis '4-snow'. now, they claim its only for snow- but we have used them in some pretty hot weather and sand and they have performed nearly identical to prowedges. we put a pair on a 300ex and it was a hell of alot more fun to ride in the sand and made it run with a 400ex for the first few gears. But if you can get prowedges, get them. alot of times they are on back order from ohtsu.
one thing is for sure - both of these series will increase traction and will ride way smoother than paddles.

Which direction do you run them? Today I ran them backwards, so the tread goes into the ground and I got a lot better traction. Got any video with them on in the desert? I would like to see them in action in the desert.
