Default 02 Air box

I bought a k&n filter awhile back and every time i try to put it back on it seems to be to big. Has anyone else had this problem? I think that its letting in air around the seal of the lid. Will this make my plugs look black ?

Your plugs are black/sooty because the mixture is rich. Your air filter should fit snug into the housing, to seal correctly. You may want to check with your dealer to makes sure that YOURS isn't one of the bikes with bad choke return springs. Good luck!

If it leaks air around the filter, it will leak dirt and ruin the pistons and rings. Get a twin air filter. K&N filters don't filter as well as foam anyway. Never clean a K&N with gas, only with K&N cleaner. If it doesn't fit well, it isn't worth the engine damage it will cause. I had one, but got a twin air.

Thanks guys for the help i need to check on these springs cause i have never changed them and it was one of the first one's to come out. I have already put in a dynojet kit but i was thinking about ordering a 145 main for the rear. I have also done the muffler mod as well. I just haveing a little problems with this jetting stuff. Thats why i was curious about the air box to see if if it was leaking more air would it make it run rich. I would think that it would make it run lean?

Yes, less restriction would make it run lean.

Fix that filter. Grease it so it doesn't leak or get a Twin-Air

I bought an 03 airbox because the filter has more area. I got just a little bit more power out of it, and I can ride longer without clogging the filter. The 03 filter has a better seal.

I did find the twin air filters in Rocky Mtn's catalog, thanks!
Question, when ordering the filters, is there more than one part that has to be ordered ?

I also have a 02 Prairie and put about 2000 mi. on it and I noticed it starting to stall when I would stop and the guys behind me said they could smell gas and I also noticed that my milage was not as good as it was,so I replaced the choke cable and the springs. Now it runs great and no more gas smell. I also got the twin air filter and it fits great.
