Default GPS Coordinates

Ran across my first GPS the other day and will be getting my own...probably a Garmin Legend (like the vista but dont know how much i really need the extra gadgets)...love the fact it tells you speed, altitude, and plots out courses. I have seen a couple of post on this forum about individuals having coordinates for the desert racing courses and other trials and tracks in the utah area...can someone please supply me with this information or a place i can retrieve it...GPS seems like a very useful tool and I have always been interested in the desert racing courses...you can get the coordinates and load them into the Garmin legend right...or did i just misinterpet info.

Another question...read in one of the forums an individual took his vinson through the desert course...would a KFX 400 or a prairie 650 be better suited for a desert race...if i get the information above i will find out on my own...but a little heads up never hurts...well appreciate any feedback...heres to riding

I have the Garmin GPS II+, works very well. If you want to get coordinates you can buy the mapsource program and plot your own path. Or look on a detailed map and get the coordinates off it and plug it into the GPS. Its all very simple once you understand how it all works.
Don't skimp out on the GPS, you will have it for many years and after awhile you will wish you had all those extra gizmos.

A z400 will work better as a desert racer than the Praire 650. But the V-Force 700 will be a better desert racer than both of those quads.

Default GPS Coordinates

Appreciate you taking the time and responding to my post...i beat it around and wanted to go with Garmin...didnt see the need down the road for the two additional features the vista offered over the legend...increased memory might not have been bad however...but I think the legend can fill the need with what it has and that is the system i chose.

I understand the plotting aspect...but have read a couple threads were people have exchanged the coordinates/waypoints for the desert race course and used it to run the course a few practice times ... that is exactly what i would like to do as I havent done one before and would like to see what the courses are like before i jump in...dont have clue to what a desert race course would be like...actually a GNCC course looks like it would be a ton of fun as well...but you dont have to many out west...so you work with what you can get ;-)... do love our sand riding too though

I had heard desert racing was pretty rough so that is why I asked about the two...figured if it was real rough the prairie might stand up more to the punishment.

I was actually going to purchase a 700 but figured the 400 would give me a totally different riding aspect...it did and I have not been disappointed in that decision...jumps extremely well and is great in the sand and track...nice pleasant change from riding my 650 pound beast ( i wouldnt trade my p650 for the world...it is a great quad)... friend bought a KFX 700 and the thing is very impressive...but it sure is fun throwing around that 373 pound KFX 400 from time to time...again thanks for the info and good riding.

Well if the people who are providing the coordinates do so in the garmin program then it will be extremely easy. If not you will have to input each one individually.

I had a Z400 before my V-Force and I have more fun on my V-Force, its just the type of riding I do I guess. It also jumps very well, I feel better on my V-Force.

Have fun with the GPS.

I bought a pair of Garmin Rino 120 GPS / Radios for myself and wife. They have worked faily well except on the quads, you have to run them on the power cord accessory or they will vibrate the batteries and shut off by themselves. I like to play with the feature of sending your position to the other GPS to keep track of the other person. I recently used this feature on the Paiute trail with my wife. She would sometimes ride about 1/4 to 1/2 mile behind me due to dust and I could make sure she didn't get lost. The radio feature is not long range. (Maybe about 1 mile or so) but it is a nice combo unit if you get a pair. I use the Garmin Mapsource program and have the street CD and Topo CD. My dad has a Garming Vista and it works very well for a GPS.
