my buddy johnny just bought two 87 mojaves off a buddy of his for 500 bucks. the one he is taking only needs the kickstart thing fixed. the other one is supposed to be a parts bike but he gave it to me. i am goin to try to fix it. the things that are wrong with it are that the kid let his buddy drive it and the guy was drunk and he shifted into reverse while driving it and screwed up the tranny or clutch bad. this quad also needs the kickstart thing fixed and also a couple other things replaced. is this quad worth fixing or should i say screw it? i already pulled the motor out to look at it. i just dont want to get into a money pit. let me know guys. thanks

well i got it fro free. thats the only reason why i am thinking about fixing it up. the plastic is in great shape, also everything else is in good shape. just the motor is screwed up. i think it would cost me about 500 for parts for the engine and tranny, depending on whats wrong. and i can installthem all for free.

Well if that is the case and the rest of the quad is in good shape then I'd say go for it. Another option is getting agood motor out of another Mojave and installing it in your frame. Nice thing is that Moajves have not changed since the summer of '86 when they were first intro'd as an early '87.

I would not screw around with an engine swap. Chances are you will end up with a quad that never gets put back together because of all the unforseen problems that will need to be solved. Stick with getting your engine going or buying another motor. You should actually pull your motor apart and find out if its rebuildable or not before spending any money. Take this project one step at a time, do it on the cheap and see if you can work with what you have. 275 for the other motor would go a long way into buying cool mods for your Mo.
